I promised myself, back when I first started working with these images, that I would come back and do a wallpaper when I felt ready to work with larger images.
I'm still not sure if I'm ready, but you have to start somewhere, right?
So I got the push I needed to try this from a contest on Aarin. That's why it's the "widescreen" size.
In honor of Link, it's left-oriented. (So the free/icon space is on the right. Does that make sense?)
Originally I was going with a tan/beige background with clouds, but it wasn't working for me, so I went looking. This background is one of redheadstock's "grunge" patterns at 150% sized. The top is a 75% of the "cutout" filter, with the non-filtered as a second layer.
The main image of the boys together is a texture-sandstone filter, over a paint daubs filter, over an unfiltered bottom layer. It was a tug-of-war between the brighter colors and the more subdued ones, and it's one of the things I like the most about this. (Oops, forgot to mention the adjustment layer of vibrance/saturation.)
And yes, that's the same image used for the smaller cameo. I admit, I had thought I could just re-use my earlier smaller picture (from Shink icons 1A & 1B), but that was before I started saving at the larger sizes and only de-sizing for PNGs. So I had to go back and grab a new one. Two layers: the top "darken" and the bottom "luminosity".
Now the douinshi itself has many different artists, as far as I can tell from the different artstyles. The horizontal image is from the story by the same artist (I'm pretty sure) who did the cover image I used. (This from the same story as my Shink 2 icon.) That's a brown-tan-beige gradient over a normal bottom layer.
I couldn't resist using the DJ name as text. It's two layers, both "darken" blending.
And a "midtones darknen" adjustment on the whole thing.
For the feathering, that was the usual "save as PNG, then reopen in PS"; the only new thing was saving it with the white background instead of the featured edges. It looked better as actual wallpaper, but maybe that's just me.
Enjoy, I hope!
